Extreme weather events in vulnerable countries drove 27 million children into hunger last year, a 135% increase over 2021. Children accounted for nearly half of the 57 million people facing acute food insecurity due to extreme weather. Countries in the Horn of Africa, particularly Ethiopia and Somalia, were most affected.
