Negotiations to create a treaty to combat global plastic pollution concluded without a consensus on how to advance a draft of the agreement. Environmental advocates criticized the oil-producing countries for employing stalling tactics to weaken the treaty. Delegates were expected to discuss a draft published in September, but instead decided to revise it, making it longer and more difficult to advance. The talks will continue in Ottawa, Canada in April 2024, with a final draft due by the end of that year.
